Dear Members:
We hope you've had nothing but a beautiful summer and that you've made some time for some writing! In this month's newsletter, you'll find upcoming events, workshops, and submission opportunities. Some of the things you'll find in this issue:
- An important survey!
- Monthly recurring events
- Upcoming workshop opportunities
As always, we’re here to support and celebrate your writing journey, whatever that may look like. Thank you for being part of this community, and we hope to see you at an event soon!
Help us by filling out a quick survey!
The PEI Writers' Guild is working to demonstrate the impact of our work in supporting Island Writers.
Your responses will greatly help us advocate for much needed increases in funding and resources that will allow us to sustain our organization.
Each and every members' input is SO important and appreciated. We did our best to make sure that this survey will take a mere 5–7 minutes. All of your answers will remain completely confidential unless you choose to share your name.

Open Mic Night at the Gallery: August 28, 7pm, The Gallery (82 Great George St) Every 4th Thursday! This welcoming and supportive evening invites writers of all levels and genres to share their work in a casual, encouraging atmosphere.
Each month, we offer a writing prompt for inspiration, with August's friendly prompt being “CATS”. This is merely meant as a catalyst for new writing and writing to the prompt is in no way required (but encouraged if it means that you push yourself a bit)! All readers are also welcome to share any writing of their choice—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, spoken word, or something entirely different. Open to everyone!
Poetry Club: September 6, 10am - 12pm, VRC (81 Prince St) Every 1st Saturday! This club is for folks who LOVE poetry - come to share and hear poetry! Exclusively for PEIWG Members
Writers Social: September 13, 1 - 3pm, Bar 1911 (113 Longworth Ave) Every 2nd Saturday! We hope that you’re able to join us for a casual, drop-in gathering of writers of all backgrounds and genres to connect with one another, share some ideas, and help us to further build our community. Open to all!
Writing Group: September 20, 10am - 12pm, Bar 1911 (113 Longworth Ave) Every 3rd Saturday! Writers, join us to connect with other local and likeminded writers and grow your craft in a supportive environment. Exclusively for PEIWG Members
A Weekend with Brian Henry
The Writers' Federation of New Brunswick extends an invitation to any PEI Writers' Guild members to attend their weekend workshops in Cap Pele, NB, with Brian Henry at the end of September (for the WFNB member price!) Use the registration code: HENRY2025-ATLANTIC
Brian Henry is a well known writer, editor, and writing teacher from Ontario who will be speaking on Saturday, September 27, about the various forms of Children's Literature, and on Sunday, September 28, will be speaking about the Art of the Query Letter and Memoir. The weekend will include public critiques and lots of room for Q & A, and discussion with other writers, in a beautiful venue. One of our longtime members (Odette Barr) owns a beautiful oceanfront in Petit-Cap, which is fairly close to the Confederation Bridge, so not impractical to participate.
You can read more about the weekend here.
FREE! Haiku Poetry Workshop
A haiku poetry workshop will be held on September 13 from 10am - 4:30pm at the Beaconsfield Carriage House in Charlottetown (2 Kent St). Admission is free and snacks will be provided. Bring a brown bag lunch!
The sessions are geared for beginning haiku poets and for readers who wish to develop an appreciation for this short form poetry. Poets and readers at all levels are welcome (for ages 16+).
There will be writing prompts for those who wish to try composing haiku during the interactive sessions. There will also be an opportunity to workshop haiku anonymously if you have a poem prepared. The final presentations will touch on short form poetry related to haiku: haibun and renga. A book table will offer books and journals for sale and browsing. Instructors are members of Haiku Canada— Blanca Baquero (NS), Carole Martignacco (NB), Angela Leuck (QC), Claudia Coutu Radmore (ON), and Michel Montreuil (ON).
To register, please email haikufox@gmail.com so presenters know how many participants to expect.
This event is sponsored by Haiku Canada.
